Command Display Screen marks from fingers

Still getting used to my '14 SL and since I'm used to touch screens on my Jaguar XKR and my wife's Honda, I've inadvertently tried to use the SL's Command Screen as a touch screen. I ended up marking up the screen from punching it with a finger. I then went online for ways to remove the finger marks. Apparently, If you aren't careful, you can actually damage it, ending up with a typically insane cost of replacement at the dealership. So, after a little research, I found the answer. You go to Office Depot and pick up a package of WHOOSH. It's a small bottle of computer screen cleaner and a small, high qualityl microfiber cloth. I followed the directions and sprayed some on the cloth, wiped the screen gently in a circular motion, then dried it with the other side of the cloth. Marks completely gone and the screen is brighter than ever. Cost: $7.99 plus tax.

I wish whoever cleaned the screen on my car before I bought it would have used something like that. My screen is scratched and swirled from someone cleaning it with what could have been a paper towel or something like that. I didn't realize it until I had the car out with the top down one day and the sun shined directly on it so I could finally see all the scratches. I wonder how much a new screen costs...just the part...I'd install it myself.

I was initially concerned because the MB dealership solution was a new Command Module priced at around $9K. Happily, my issue was fixed by the Office Depot $7.99 product. I would advise you to try that first. Secondarily, with the scratches you described, it may be just the anti glare coating that is damaged, not the screen and that can be fixed with the info from this post:

Both options appear to me better than dropping by the dealership with a suitcase full of cash. Let me know how this works out for you.

Great link! I'll order the Novus stuff and give it a shot. Does anyone know if the NAV screen in a 2016 SL is the same as the one in a 2017 SL? I found a screen protector on Amazon that "fits a 2016 SL"...no 2013-2020 or 2017-2020...just a 2016. I'm guessing it'll fit, but...

Comand screen is larger in the facelift SLs if I recall correctly. Might want to double check size with a measuring tape.

I've used NuShield on a couple of my MBZ's. Great product.

I apologize, I thought this link was for a glass protector, but it's just a soft film like the ones in the NuShield link above. Also, I noticed in the NuShield link that they want you to contact them before ordering for a facelift SL. Maybe they want you to trim a protector from another application if you have a facelift car?

Could be they want to confirm screen size or explain what's involved applying the film. Give then a call and see what they say.

I won't bother with a screen protector if I can't find one made of glass.
