SL/R231: New owner (sort of)
I'm a member of several AACA (Antique Automobile Club of America) car clubs locally (I'm on the Board of the Music City AACA chapter) and the local Corvette and Datsun/Nissan Z clubs as well. Recently joined Mercedes-Benz Club of America also.
Been lurking for a few months (and learned quite a bit) since trading my 2018 Infiniti Q60 Red Sport several months ago for a CPO 2019 SL450 from local dealer (Mercedes-Benz of Music City) here in Nashville.
Magnificent automobile. Hands down the finest car I've ever owned or driven. Just under 14k miles now. First convertible I've owned.
Since acquisition, I've added the eBay $100 rear spoiler (perfect), had the car ceramic coated and replaced the OEM wheels and Continental runflats with Mandrus Millenium wheels and Michelin A/S tires.
OEM wheels:

New wheels:

Currently also own a 2017 Corvette Grand Sport, a 2016 Hyundai Equus Ultimate (a poor man's S-Class but a fine car in it's own right), a 1995 Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo and 1971 Datsun 240Z owned since 1987. My wife has a 2017 Hyundai Azera Limited.
The Corvette with summer and winter tire/wheel combos:

The 300ZX:

The 240Z:

Look forward to learning more and hoping for a great 2021 after the year we've had.

They look great the day they’re cleaned and polished, but in our wet climate in the UK that’s about the size of it. The brilliant blue isn’t much better though, but I am a bit of a perfectionist.
I never let a service centre wash a car or detail. Any new car I say ‘leave it with the factory packaging etc. and I’ll take care of it. The last thing you want is someone using an old gritty sponge on the bodywork.

The black is beautiful when clean. It looks so much better after paint correction and the coating.

OMG, you had virtually the same delivery experience that I did! My car was clean on the outside, but only because they had to repaint the lower front bumper due to all the nasty through-the-paint scratches. My sales guy had told me over the phone that the car was "flawless...not a mark on it" before I went to see it. It wasn't until I got there that I saw all the cosmetic paint damage on the bumper. They did take care of it, and did a great job, too...but I found the inside of the car exactly as you're describing yours. Grass clippings in the trunk and on the carpet...food wrappers/remnants, a screwdriver, the lens from someone's prescription glasses all under the seats. I'm three hours away from them, so I had to clean the car myself after I got it home and noticed the mess. The guy just went on and on about how he has a side business detailing cars and how he personally was going to "do my leather", which looked perfectly fine already. The leather looked the same when I picked it up as it did when I first saw it. I don't think I could, in good conscience, recommend them to anyone. The sales manager sent me an e-mail survey, and I didn't hold back anything. I never heard back from him. I sure hope I have better luck with my local dealership, if they ever see my car.

I also had to leave the car for a week after delivery to address a few issues they agreed to correct including refinishing two wheels, a noise in the front which we thought was a wheel bearing but turned out to be a defective (new) tire, resetting the trunk partition and replacing a broken piece of windshield trim damaged when the windshield was replaced at 1,300 miles. Got a loaner and all was handled well. No issues with first experience with their service department.
I never did fill out their survey, but did speak to the sales manager, who gave me the $69 Mercedes-Benz branded polo for my troubles with the condition at initial delivery.
i put the same spoiler on my white 14 sl550 , went with carbon fiber though.
i also owned a c6 corvette which i heavily modified and miss it at times but i truly love the SL. How fast and refine it is, tuned it so its definately fast.
here are some eyecandy

SL is 530hp at the crank probably after tune
c6 was 547hp at the wheels after supercharger .
