I currently have an 07 550SL with 15K miles and lately I have been craving more current technology in the later model 550's and have my eye on a 2013 with 30K miles and all the bells and whistles but of course with the later technology comes all those things that are very expensive to repair. Also moving from a naturally aspirated V8 to a twin turbo. I can't decide if I should make the move......any advice ? If I decide to pull the trigger anything I need to be looking at specifically on the 2013 its being sold by an MB dealer.
The R231 is one of the most trouble-free and reliable MB's on the market. 8 years+ on forum attribute to that. Problems with the R230 were the rule; with the R231's it is the exception. But if you are planning to buy a particular car, make sure have a PPI done on it or get a CPO model.

ABC is a non-issue on the R231 and I wouldn’t get one without it. A lot of people coming from R230’s a fearful after getting hit with pricey repairs but it isn’t a thing on these.

I had a 2004 SL500. Ordered it new and had it for 12 years. Got a used, 2013 SL550 without ABC (red) and could not stand the difference in ride quality. Honestly, I felt my 2003 Corvette with Magnetic Ride rode better. Ordered a 2019 SL450 with ABC (white) and I just love the ride quality again. YMMV. Good luck to you.
