So I picked the SL up from the dealer 2 weeks ago drove it briefly and parked it in the garage last Saturday I went to drive the car there was 7lbs of air in the rear passenger tire put air in and drove it to my local shop figured probably picked up a nail turned out the wheel was cracked I immediately called my salesman since I only had the car for 7 days of course he had to speak with the sales manager and they agreed to replace the wheel so they picked up the car on Monday with a flat bed. I get a call from the service department telling me not only was the wheel cracked the tire had a bubble and needed to be replaced a front rim was bent and needed repair and I also needed a rear differential service a brake fluid flush and a 4 wheel alignment total cost $2700 I had fit and told the service advisor I have only had this car for a week all this should have been taken care of prior to my pick up. After much back and forth the dealership took care of everything at no cost to me.
i've had that happen five or six times. Lucky they did it for you free; those rims are about $2k each and the tires several hundred. Very common to crack rims and damage tires during run in with pothole, of which there are tons around here. you don't need to be going fast, and doesn't have to be a deep pothole. there's a discussion in this forum about this and various solutions, including spare tires, new aftermarket rims, and welding old rims. spare tire - MBWorld.org Forums

I thought someone on here recently said you can't do an alignment on the SL. I remember because my car seems to have an extraordinary amount of negative camber on the rear wheels, which would leave the inner rear wheels most vulnerable to cracking. I was thinking I'd have them check the alignment on my next visit to the dealer, and then I read here that they can't adjust the alignment...
If it was sold by a Mercedes dealer with a cracked wheel and other defects this doesn't speak well for the dealership.
Yes it was sold by a Mercedes Benz dealer here on Long Island I was pretty aggravated that at the very minimum the complete service was not performed prior to me picking up the car.
