The 13' SL that I just picked up when I lift the carpeted trunk floor panel there is nothing in the lower compartment was there suppose to be a portable compressor there ? and is it worth buying ?
However, given it's age, your car has probably had a new set of tyres......check that it still has run-flats (many people change them to normal tyres, to get a more comfortable ride). If so, I'd get a kit (tirefit) so that I'm not stranded somewhere.

I have also been looking for the correct p/n for the tire compressor. (2017 sl430) While Mercedes compressors can be found on eBay there are several part numbers and I want to fit the shadow box under the trunk floor lid. When the OEM tires (run flats) wore down I replaced with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+. I drive rain or shine March though to the first snow in Wisconsin, generally November. I am going on a cross country trip and want some insurance, ie the compressor. Sealant is problematic, once in the tire it is very difficult to get out and many repair shops don't want to deal with it. They will want to replace the tire. if the tires have worn to any significant degree now there is a tire with full tread and a semi-worn tire not a good condition for the driveline. So 2 new tires should be considered. With a compressor, the tire can be re-inflated, and though there may be a object in the tire, the tire will still hold pressure for a period of time allowing an opportunity to get the tire repaired. I checked with a couple repair shops and the concurred with this logic. If anyone happens to know the part number for the R231 tire compressor I would appreciate it. thanks

Nothing special about a tire compressor for an SL; other than paying way too much to have an MB label on it. I would just take a look at what one of the Autozone type places has on the shelf - much cheaper.
This is the one I have in my trunk. It fits in the foam snugly but it's a slightly shorter compressor (for the foam cut-out) and I use a lower capacity sealant bottle. For what its worth, I also carry a plug/patch kit.
I have the 350ML sized sealant bottle but it looks like the foam is sized for the 620ML bottle ( A 000 583 07 12 )
I think the taller compressor has the black gauge face (A 000 583 15 02) and should fit in there perfectly.
Mine is part # A 000 583 82 00
I probably wouldn't buy it at the dealer, as plenty can be found around the internet or at a reliable wrecking yard. Just keep an eye out for the expiration date of the sealant (marked on bottle)
