Michelin Question

We are buying tires for the SL450. We have 19 inch stock tires. We decided to put Michelin Pilot A-S3+ on the car. Called to order them and they are out and backordered. I called the factory and they cannot get them and they told me that they might discontinue them. Tire rack had one tire for the front.

So if we stay with Michelin, we can get Pilot Sport 4S or we can get Pilot Super Sport. They are both summer tires and not all season... I don't see much difference in them. We will not see much driving below 40 degrees or cold weather driving or really not much bad weather.

Any input or advice is appreciated. We are going on a small trip in about 3 weeks and I would like to get this done. Thanks. I am not a tire guy.

Only MBs - the best or nothing
Unless you require wintry capabilities and/or often driving in sub 40F conditions (which you've stated you do not), then I would suggest to skip AS3+ and opt for PSS or PS4 - both are far superior to AS3+.

Try the Pilot Sport 4S, have them on 2 of my cars and like them.

11,000 miles on our 2017 SL550. Couldn't take another day driving on the stock Run Flats. Had tried rebalancing, alignment, nothing could get rid of the high-speed rumble strips ride of the run-flats. Purchased four Michelin Pilot Super Sports and it now drives like a completely different car. 255/35ZR19 in front and 285/30/ZR19 in the rear. Put a can of leak fix in the trunk and a 12-volt air compressor. I live in Florida, never leave the state so AS were not even a consideration. Perfect tire for my needs.

Is there a specific leak fix that you'd recommend? I've been thinking about keeping one in the trunk of my car.
Thanks

I think Mercedes dealers sell a MB branded unit but you can buy one on Amazon or even at Walmart that will work. A can of slime/sealant and a compressor is basically all that is in the kits. They range in price from about $20 to as much as $100.

I have one of these in all 3 of our vehicles.
Amazon Amazon

I am also shopping for 19" tires but I plan to buy an all season so I'm leaning toward the new Michelin All Season 4S or the Continental DWS06+. The Michelins are hard to get.

We have the Slime kit in the car. We have AAA and will let them handle it if there is a real problem. I have not had a flat tire on a vehicle in 40 years or more. We struggled with the runflat decision.. I read absolutely nothing good about them and a lot of bad.. I have an SUV 4WD EXPEDITION.. My wife drives this car more than me so I let her decide....We are getting non runflat A/S3+.

I called Michelin and talked to a Mich tire technology rep for several minutes. We needed to go ahead and do this. We wanted all season if possible because we take a trip in it sometimes and don't want to worry about rain or cool temperatures.... people on this forum that have the A/S seem to be pleased. I will be glad when it is done.

Yeah, I’m definitely ordering one of those Slime kits as soon as Amazon has them back in stock. As far as tires, I’m getting fed up with the Hankooks and will most likely looking into Michelins when replacement time comes.
