ABC Comand Display

I test drove a 2013 SL550 with ABC yesterday. When the button by the gear shift is pressed to bring up the Comand screen, what should it display? On the one I tried it displayed the height, a G force display and a picture of the car with a display on each wheel with up and down arrows. Between the arrows were two red blocks displayed. When driving the car the blocks remained red and did not show and interaction with the suspension, despite going over a couple of speed bumps etc. Is that display supposed to change as the suspension is working?

In my opinion that set of screens is pretty useless once you know what is going to happen when you change to a different ABC mode.

I noticed that when you switch between sport and comfort, nothing changed except the word sport or comfort! To be honest, I could not feel much difference in the ride either.

If memory serves, you will not see actual damper compression due to uneven roads, etc. The only thing it should show is an increased pressure rate on specific dampers based on G-Force. Here is a pic of our old 2017 ABC screen. The red dot shows the directional g force. For example, when corning you should see the outer two dampers increase pressure... Or try to brake you will see the brake force, g-force and to two front dampers change...

But its just a graphic, don't expect any meaningful data from it...

Yes, the display changes on my 2013 SL63. The graphic is different from the one Wolfman showed (probably because mine is pre-facelift), but the 4 red blocks get larger or smaller depending on the nature of the road surface, cornering, etc.

And yes, I can feel a difference between sport and comfort.

As I said above the whole display thing is pretty useless in my opinion but the actual changing from Comfort to Sport should be very noticeable. In Sport mode the suspension is stiffer, steering tightens up and gas pedal more responsive. Also brings a quicker smile to the driver....😊
