Good morning folks. I've recently started getting some false inactive messages for the active assist system. My MB indy has cleared all the fault codes but it still happens intermittently. More bothersome than anything else. Anyone have any suggestions short of taking it to the dealership? Thanks.

 

What is the "active assist", where does the message appear, what does it say and what happens when you get the message

Are all the cameras and sensors clean?

 

Here's what it looks like. However, all the actual sensors seem to be working...

 

This happens to me about once a month. It's always on a cold start up. I shut the car off and restart it and the messages go away.

This happen to me once when I first got the car, I switched the function off did a couple of journeys and then switched it back on and it's been fine ever since.

 

This might be a clue, when I cycle through the menu it tells me the system is disabled and I can't seem to reactivate it.

 

I had a similar issue with my SL63 when I first got it. Immediately after pulling it off the delivery trailer, I had errors. It would work fine sometimes and then fail, others, sometime even mid journey. After a few discussions with my local Indy mechanic, I took my new to me SL to the local MB dealer. In the end, MB took apart the nose and found a bracket that had been damaged (the grill had been pushed inward) and reinstalled.

While all my sensors were working, the front distronic sensor (behind the grill) was pointed up above spec (more than 5 degrees upward if I recall). So it was right on the edge of of out of spec, and less stable at higher speeds.

I had the grill mount and bracket replaced and promptly filed a request with both the shipping dealer and their delivery company. While neither group ever claimed responsibility for damaging it, a check covering all of the costs of the repair was issued quickly after bringing my complaint to the manager of the dealer group.

I haven’t had a single issue since.
