One of my favorite Corvettes I owned was a 1977... affectionately known as Torque Monster... it was tweaked by a friend that built race cars.

But my favorite part of this car was the two top panels that were removable and had straps for the rear luggage rack. You could remove the panels and lock them in place on the luggage rack.

I wish I had a good photo but it was before digital photos and posting of photos... I wish I still had that car.

I bought a new 1977 Corvette at age 22 and thought I had died and gone to heaven. I have been a life long Corvette fan, having owned 16 of them, but at this stage of my life the SL just works better for me. I still have one left, a 1972 LT-1, but I don’t drive it much these days. Whenever I feel the need to turn a few wrenches it fits the bill as there is always something that needs to be done to it.

Also, there are lots of reports of the trunk getting very hot and some owners are retrofitting insulation to reduce the heat.

The performance is incredible with 0-60 times under 3 seconds under the right conditions and the Z06 will essentially be a street legal race car. That said, the current SL fits my needs and especially my wife's so it is doubtful I will buy a C8 and for sure not until the demand is reduced considerably. You are looking at a wait time of at least a year and many dealers are adding up to $30K ADM to the price. No way I'm going to pay over sticker.
The trunk gets VERY hot. After a spirited drive, the cargo can get hot enough to be uncomfortable or even painful to touch. More heat insulation is certainly needed.

That’s a beauty! Is that original paint?

Thanks! It was repainted back in the 90’s. The color is Elkhart Green but the shade is a little off, especially in bright sunlight. It looks better in the pictures than it does in real life.

I only asked, because I had a ‘72 in Elkhart Green and it looked a few shades darker than your car. Gorgeous car, no matter the color. 1972: The last year to have an early era Corvette!
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone here!

Had V10 MT R8 Vert for 20,000 miles 4 years....need to be under 5'8 to be comfortable, and it's not comfortable for more than two hours at a time.

Very reliable, civilized, and decent car but it really feels like a posh VW variant with blahh interior.

Sold if for what I paid, probably too cheap, it was a boring car for me with no emotional desire to keep it at all since I am really too tall for it in the first place.

It's a keeper though and will likely appreciate while driving it especially if can get the V10 MT.

How about the R8???.... I do not know anybody with one .... so I am starting to look at them some with research in mind.

Thank you for the heads up. Like I said, I don’t know anybody with one. I am 6'1" and it sounds like it won't be comfortable. We have two SUVs and like to keep a fun car. We have had the SL almost two years and I think she is getting the itch to try something else. She really likes the look of the R8. I know she might be thinking because she has asked about it.... we usually drive the fun/date car a couple of years and then move to something else.

I like the SL450. I am not ready to look elsewhere but she is thinking of looking this winter in Florida. I can get in and out of the SL easily. We won't buy something uncomfortable. Thank you for the reply... She is just internet browsing right now, but that is how things start.... LOL.
