Is this a decent deal? 2014 SL550
Hey All,
I found a 2014 SL550 (black with tan/cream interior) that only has 13,8XX miles on it. It is not local to me so I cannot physically see it, but all the pictures, videos, virtual tours, etc.. and it seems near immaculate. It had two owners.. they both lived in Ohio -- the dealership that sold it the first time also sold it the second time, and now that same dealership is selling it again. All service work was performed at that same dealership. OTD price including delivery to me is $56,098.00. My max budget was 60K to spend... so this is right at it.. I have pretty much settled on the fact 2014 (maybe some higher mileage 2015) is the most I could afford. What do you all think?

Looks like a very nice car. Have you had a black car before? They are difficult to keep clean. If you are a perfectionist, I’d go for another color. If not and you can at least garage it every night, sounds like a pretty decent deal. Good luck.
P.S. I’m a perfectionist, so I went with white.

ABC or Active Body Control is an amazing option. If you can find a car with it, I highly recommend it. It transforms the ride & handling of the car from good to OUT OF THIS WORLD, at least in my humble opinion. While I am at it, I would highly recommend that you look into a 2017 or newer SL450. If you are not a speed freak or torque junky, the V6 with 369hp will knock your socks off! Of course, finding a 450 with ABC is just about impossible, so take my advice for what it’s worth. Again, best of luck. With winter coming, SL prices may fall over the next few months, especially where it snows.
P.S. It was in the 80’s today in Orange County. November 11th! Too warm for me to go for an SL drive. I love sunny days right at 68 or 70 degrees.

Personaly I think the market is too crazy right now to say what is or isn't a great deal. I just sold my 2013 SL550 with 61,000 for several thousand more than I paid for it. I purchased a 2013 Sl550 with 5,900 (!?) miles for several thousand less than your deal. The car's sticker was around $125,000. I was less concerned about the deal than the car. If it makes you happy and fits comfortably in your financial profile AND is what you want..then.go for it. They are truly wonderful cars. At some point fretting over whether or not you got a "deal" is a waste of energy and takes away your enjoyment of the car.
Just my opinion...

I purchased a 2013 SL550 3 months ago for my wife with 18k miles and 2 owners for $54k. It is fully loaded and is only missing night vision (not needed IMO). ABC and Magic Sky and to some extent B&O audio are nice to have. It is a very desirable Diamond White with porcelain nappa leather and a Florida car. Based on that, your deal is probably OK but not outstanding. I agree that black is a difficult color to maintain and having once had a black car, I would never have another one. If this one does not fully float your boat, be patient and wait as good ones are around.

Hi guys, new owner here. Just purchased a 2013 with 16 K miles, Tennorite grey/ semi-annaline red. No ABC or Magic Sky, has HK stereo and all other options, AMG sport package, $53,000 out the door. One owner, all MB service, clear Carfax.
As others have said, if it works for you, fits the budget or just gets your juices flowing, go for it. OMG, these are fantastic cars. I have prev owned a 08 CLS, and 11 S550. I knew the SL was exceptional but had no idea!
One suggestion, use the “engineering mode” on the Command unit to enable fader control on the stereo, dramatically improves audio performance, found here on the forum.
Good luck and enjoy

Thank you all for the replies. I do alright in the financial department, but with 4 kids and one who needs a car so I can usher her off to the real world I certainly can't justify overpaying on a vehicle, especially if pricing may recover and or tank in the next year or so. The most financially prudent thing for me to do seems to be buy her something instead of handing down my M37X so at least if I overpay its only to the tune of a thousand or two. I can then wait for either pricing to recover, a local dealer to have one I can actually test drive and see up close before purchase, or that right deal online.
It does pain me a bit though as that blue one was really nice.. but based on what you all have said and a like reddit thread I posted -- I would be overpaying by quite a bit with the blue one at around 67K OTD after fees, taxes, and delivery.
anyone who purchased one in 2019/2020 what did you pay for it.... for me personally overpaying would hinder my enjoyment of it. I wish I had the money to just toss at it and not care... but not quite there in life.

I would not buy anything older than a 2017 if I were looking at the price range you are.
They did a facelift in 2017 which was a lot more than just a facelift. The transmission change is worth it by itself in my opinion. I am not as SL tech knowledgeable as some here. I know Jeeps and Corvettes.. I just know what I feel when I get behind the wheel. Others can explain the differences better than I can.
When we bought, we were in Florida for the winter and drove a LOT of SLs. We were not constrained by a budget and could have bought whatever we wanted. The 2017 and newer (after the facelift) was what we decided on.... AND we didn't know much about what was done with the facelift redesign....LOL... We just knew it was a better driving car for us. For ballpark of the money you are at, you could find a 2017 or newer 450. Streamliner might chime in with what all they did with the redesign in 2017.

I have read a lot about ABC and how much better the car handles with it. The problem I have with the SL450 is I have not found a single one that has ABC. There are no 2017+ SL550 that are in my price range.. at least not currently..

We had several black MB’s. All are difficult to keep clean (040 Black, Obsidian, Mocha Black, Black Opal, Magnetite Black).
I like Magnetite the best and it still looks good when dusty but these cars look best right after the wash.
IMO the most practical color is Iridium silver for the SL; the color looks clean even when dirty. Better than white for dirt.
