(Stated as the proud owner of a “new” 1998 R129 SL500. Liked my R231 SL63 so much that I added an older SL to the fleet! In the process of researching the R129s I discovered that the key issue has been largely solved. Anyway the one I bought came with both keys.)

Sure as long as it’s a 98+. 97 and below are SOL
And it’s a somewhat kludgy fix. Better hope you have at least one functional key in order to duplicate.
You’re basically duplicating vs generating a key like the factory does thru VIN. What about international owners?
This is a stop gap measure at best. Especially since it appears the factory has completely discontinued the keys due to the electronics manufacturer being out of businesses, with no effort searching for a replacement…
Take care of your keys!!!
Looks like a nice SL500 👍 LOL. Do you need a “wife saver” yet?
