My New 2013 SL550 - 5,900 Miles

I'd mentioned in another thread that I was thinking of trading my 2013 Sl550 for one with lower miles. Mine had 61,000, was lunar blue and was in great running shape. Was offered several thousand over what I'd paid for it, but that was a wash with the crazy prices of SL's in the marketplace. Found one with 5,900 miles, serviced at Mercedes. Designo Mocha paint, Magic Sky, etc. The car arrived this weekend. Was it the right move? Who knows, lots of you weighed in and all had valid comments. I can tell you the car seems to be exactly as advertised...we'll see.
Happy Motoring!

Will live with it awhile before I decide on whether or not to change the wheels...

Beauty! How much did you have to pay to get a lower mileage example? I'd assume even with higher prices the dealer would still like to get a cut.

Looks great! All that matters is that you are happy with the deal.

That low of miles?! Nice! If you're thinking of an extended warranty, you're looking at $4,695 for a complete manufacturers extension through Freedom Warranty, 5 years / up to 100k miles, $100 deductible, covered for $275 in labor per hour, with convertible top coverage, accepted at all Mercedes Benz dealers or licensed independents in North America. Text or call me at (602) 909-9216 or my email is tgibson@highline-autos.com for an example contract. 0% financing available over 12 or 18 month terms.

Congratulations, great color combination!

There were a couple of moving pieces to the deal but I paid a bit under the $52,500 asking price.

Well that's one hell of a good price then, I think. I am staggered. Sold my 2005 C6 Vette(10,000 miles) that I brought originally for around 52K and yes over the years spent at least another 20K on her, but our local dealer gave me 47K for her and would you friggin believe it,sold it(obviously had someone already lined up) for 55K the next day. Not bad. 8K in 24 hours. I couldn't even get 22K for it last December????

I think it's relative to the times we're in. Prices are sure to come down in the coming months. Factoring in I overpaid for this car and was overpaid for my car I'm not sure how you can even emphatically state whether or not it was a good deal. All I know is that it was a good deal for me - I was looking for a low-mileage SL550, found one with crazy low miles, am comfortable with the deal and elated with the car. That's good enough for me.

Do you mind saying what they gave you for your old one?

I have been tracking prices since the start of my search a few months ago. You did fairly well on this, at least based on current pricing trends. I am in a decision deadlock right now.. I have no idea what to do. I have a budget of around $75K max.. with taxes and such that is really about a 70K max on the car itself. I can find a <30K miles SL450 in that range, I can find 2012-2014 <40K miles SL63 AMG, and 14-15 <25K miles SL550 (on a rare occasion with ABC) in this price range.
I really can't decide which direction to go! each time I think I have my mind made up.. I rethink things.

From a dealer, what is the going rate for a 2013 SL550? 73 thousand miles. Condition. Fair to good. i.e. few windscreen chips. few paint chips, wheel rims evidence of a few scrapes, etc, etc, in line with its age but nothing that can't be fixed if I want to. Appears from what I have seen, depends on supply and demand but trying to get a ballpark figure in lieu of what is happening in the second hand market at present but in my thinking, 73 thousand miles is on the high side which surely should matter or perhaps it doesn't? No ABC with mine otherwise fully loaded. Fully serviced and still runs great , however was told that the mounts will need to be looked at some time, but was told that for the last two years!

The dealer will probably try to get 35K at the very low end up to about 41K -- but that would be hard. Right now there are enough online examples of <50K miles 2013 in the low 40's that I doubt they would get that.

As of right now there are around 96 2013 SL550(s) for sale. The least expensive one is $32K with 101K miles on it in fair to good condition 36K seems like a market average number between 65K-80K miles. The most expensive is a 2013 in great condition with 5,674 miles on it at 60K. You can still acquire a <30K miles 2013 for somewhere around 50K. I drove a 2013 with <30K miles this past weekend, not immaculate but nearly immaculate condition, they had it for $44XXX (no haggle price)

Here is CarGuru's Pricing Trends: https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/price-...z-SL-Class-d84
TLDR: average price $47,457 | down .78% in last 30 days | down .30% in the last 90 days | up 9.95% Year over Year

Hope this helps.

Current used car prices are pretty crazy now

I was just browsing cars/prices and was a bit shocked. According to what I find on the various sites like Carguru and Autotrader, it appears my 2016 SL400 with 26K miles is worth 8 to 10K more than I paid for it when it had 18K miles on it in June of 2020. Again, as great as this sounds, it would cost a lot to upgrade at this time, so it is good that I love my current ride.

I agree, you'll get more for your SL then you'll pay more for the "upgrade." I did it because I was looking for an SL with fewer miles and you don't come across 2013's too often with less than 6,000 miles on the odometer. I think the transaction worked out for me but not because I got a deal...I got exactly what I was looking for so I'm happy.

Got to be happy when we get what we want. I think the reason I love my sl400 is because it is the color combo I prefer above all others. Also, it is just a great car that is so much better than anything else I have owned.

I agree. Having the preferred color combo is, IMHO, one of the most important aspects of any car. It is something you can appreciate every time you even glance at the car.
