Used Car For Sale!

Also posted this on the W213 site: Dropped by Mercedes Benz of Music City on Thursday to pick up my window shade for the wagon; sitting in the show room was this lovely Ferrari F40. Seems that there will be a Ferrari dealer opening here, owned by the same group that owns the MB dealership, and they brought the car in for the announcement, which will be officially made at Amelia Island. This particular car was headed to the Palm Beach Cavallino, and then on to Amelia to be auctioned. Superb example, likely never driven in earnest. Just wanted to share with some fellow gear-heads; have a great weekend!

Iam in Kissimmee at the Mecum Auction. They sold a 1992 F40, with 8732 miles, from a private collection today for 2.75 million. Incredible car.

Seems inappropriate to call it a "used car".

For these, pre owned seems more fitting than used.

Just curious and sooooo gotta know how many have you personally owned and for how long? Which models and years were they? When ever I have heard someone say negative things about another brand, or car maker in 90% of those instances the person complaining never owned what they were complaining about and got 100% of the info for their complaint online, from friends of a friends, or their best friends, uncles brother in law that use to know someone with a such and such and he said they were terrible. Or they were the 7th owner of a model that saw no service and was shocked by how many issues it had lol.

Maybe you have personal facts that we don't know?? Do tell.

If I were going to spend $2.75m on a Ferrari, it sure wouldn’t be on an ugly F40. I’d take a nice 275 or 330GTS any day of the week.

I don't know about JettaRed, but I have owned three different Italian cars, all FIATs. Two of them were brand new ('73 850 Spyder and '74 X1/9) and one was two years old when I bought it ('72 128 2-door sedan), and they were all massive fun to drive...when you could get them started. That was just one of many problems I had with all of them. Moving up-market from FIAT didn't guarantee better results, either. Admittedly, this was a long time ago, and they would simply have to be better now or the Italian industry would have been dust decades ago. Overall, I have fond memories of driving those cars, and a sour enough taste in my mouth from the rest of the ownership experience that I'll never own another one. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice...

YMMV, but if so, you were lucky.

I can appreciate the first hand experiences with them and I agree that the lot would have to be better now, just as Ford has evolved since the 80’s, as well as Dodge, I think the Italians leaps beyond what they use to be.

My similar experience was when I bought my first “foreign” car, a 1965 Jaguar XKE Roadster. It was the only car I ever had, where you could pull it into the garage one night, running perfectly, then ROLL it out of the garage the next morning, wash it, wax it and when you went to pull it back into the garage, something was BROKEN—usually electrical, courtesy of Count Lucas: The Prince of Darkness.

First thing I would do is have them take the stupid air foil spoiler or whatever the "Italian" name for it is off the rear. It has really nice lines until.you get to that monstrosity.

I have to agree. Bought my wife a beautiful low mileage XJ6 for her 40th birthday. Gorgeous car, dark metallic blue, saddle interior, wire wheels. But it would randomly fail to start. Final straw when we parked it at the Ferry landing at Lewes DE and went to Cape May NJ for the day. Came back to Lewes on the last ferry around midnight. Pouring rainstorm and of course it wouldn't start. Could not find a garage anywhere so I had to rent a car to drive home AND and pay for a flatbed back to Hagerstown. Sold the car the next week. I still love Jaguars and might buy a newer one.

Disagree, speaking from experience.
I've owned a 355 for 7 years. Nothing's broke, it's never leaked, it's never not started.
I DIY everything, total cost of ownership is incredibly low .

Beautiful car! I am going exotic hopefully in the next 5/10 years. Been researching for years and it is my ultimate dream car. My SL is my regular car dream car and I have accomplished that goal.

I agree about people just repeating what they have heard. If you dig deep most times it’s something else driving those negative comments.

My comment was tongue-in-cheek. More of a reference to Fiats.

This is my favorite car ever. This is my #1. Unfortunately I do not have a budget for a car like that lol. I was able to enter F car ownership with a F355. if that is all I can do then I am ok with it. But I still drool over a F40.

I have a 99 F355. Blue on Tan. 6 Speed. I am on my phone so no pics but on my Mac I have them. Car has been reliable and has always worked. Cost of ownership is high but it is a F Car. F355 has higher cost of ownership vs the 360 or 430 but no way I would ever consider my f car unreliable.
