How are the seats in a SL550?
Here's a different question for you... I have a 2018 Mustang GT. I have to sell it because I can't stand the seat. I am old (78) and heavy (225) and it just doesn't provide enough support in the seat cushion, which causes severe sciatic nerve pain after about 40 minutes. I had the same issue with a BMW 335i and Mini. I have been investigating and I'm being told Mercedes has about the best seats. So, I have been looking at 2013 - 2015 SL550 models. Unfortunately, there are very few around here and they aren't going to let me test drive them for an hour, even if I find one. I figure I could buy one from CarMax and if my back bothers me, I can return it. I will be out the transfer fee, but that's about as good as I can do. So, I figure it can't hurt to ask first.

2015 SL550
I have a 2015 SL550 and I find that the seats are very customizable and comfortable. I'm a little younger (44) and lighter (185 lbs) but have had some ongoing back issues (scoliosis and some sciatic pain as well). The seats are pretty comfortable for me. On any long ride, in any car, my back will hurt over time. Good luck.

I have a 2016, seat are the most comfortable of all the cars I own. We have done 500+ miles drives and never had any issues or fatigue. Granted, have also done long distance drives in my 996 and also had no issues. I am based in Chicago, and happy to meet and go for a drive to allow you to experience the seating.

I also suffer from sciatica and have had to get rid of cars because of the seats, most recently a C7 Corvette. The seats in my SL are much more comfortable and I think would suit you much better. I have had a Mustang GT as well and I can tell you that I had the same issues that you are having. I agree that it would be prudent to drive one for an extended time if possible because as you know it sometimes takes awhile for seat deficiencies to show up. This might be a long shot but have you looked into Turo private car rentals in your area? It’s surprising what people are willing to rent.
