Are you replacing it with another vehicle? In some states (like Colorado where I live) when trading a vehicle for a new one, sales tax is paid only on the difference between the purchase price of the new vehicle minus the trade-in value rather than on the full value of the new vehicle. If that applies in your case, you might consider a trade a dealer of any make, not necessarily a Mercedes dealer. Although the trade-in value may be less than the sale price to an individual or other purchaser like CarMax, you could offset that by a significant reduction in sales tax. Plus you eliminate the hassle and potential security risk of having a potential buyer at your home and of driving your vehicle.

2013 SL550
I sold an SL550 about six months ago using Carvana. They offered several thousand more than I'd paid for the car a year before but I attribute that to the crazy market. I got a quote online in about five minutes, they met me in a Lowe's parking lot about 30 minutes from my house. The Carvana guy didn't even drive the car. I kept insisting he do so and he kept saying he could tell the car was well cared for. He had an ipad of sorts, entered some information and a short time later the money hit my bank account.

When I ordered my GLC in December the dealer offered me $12,000 for my C300 in trade. When the car arrived in March Carvana offered me $17,533, and local used car lot gave me $18,000. The entire sales tax on the GLC was about $3900, about $1000 more than if I had traded in the C.
