Front wheel speed sensor.

Hi All. Has anyone changed a front wheel speed sensor as I think my right hand side one has failed. I have removed the sensor from the wheel end in order to clean it which is straight forward but the cable disappears behind the wheel arch liner. I presume there is a connector behind there somewhere.

Why do you think it failed? What indicators did you get?

Attached the WIS section for R&R of front speed sensor, along with a picture from the EPC below (its #7)
Yes, you'll need to remove the inner fender liner....

Good Luck

I had a speed sensor replaced about a month ago at an Indy shop in Naples Florida. I was getting a “pre-safe” warning display on my dash and took it in for diagnosis. The part was less than $50, as I recall.

I replaced my front sensor a while ago. Its a straightforward job if you follow the instructions that CRConsulting has kindly provided and the part is not expensive.
In my case, the failure caused all sorts of strange issues, the most serious was the roof wouldn't close. Apparently the failed sensor was signalling that the car was still doing 50mph so too fast for the roof to operate.

I'm getting similar messages intermittently. However, when I scan for codes, there are none. Should there also be stored codes?

Thanks for the reply's the diagram and instructions are very helpful. The failure indicators were as follows.
Car.

ABS anti skid currently unavailable
Engine warning light illuminated along with others appertaining to above list.

Scanner.
Right front wheel sensor sub fault
The right front wheel speed sensor has a malfunction. There is a signal fault or the message is faulty.

Thanks. I'm not seeing any of those. I'm getting Distronic and Radar sensor codes with my Pre-Safe warning message.

Update. I got a new sensor today from MB £20.20 that's with a 10% discount. Fitted it then took the car for a run at various speeds up to 70 mph and no warning lights or messages. So that was the culprit, what did puzzle me was this fault occurred on the first run after I replaced all four cam shaft position sensors. Although the car had been stood for three weeks prior to doing that job. So I'll put it down to a coincidence.
Thanks once again for all your help.
