Talking Distronic package

Distronic plus package

Hello guys,

I am learning this distronic feature on my S class vehicle and would like to hear your experience. I tried Distronic speed control feature (cruise control) on the highway at the traffic sign detection speed . When my navigation led me to the ramp exit, it didn't reduce the speed. I am not sure how this feature works exactly. Is the navigation system supposed to recognize the speed limit change near the ramp and react/reduce the speed before the ramp? I was little bit scared at the ramp. Thank you.

Hello,

You are in the SL section, so those with the same model car of yours may offer better insight. On my SL the distronic feature follows and maintains my cars speed and keeps a set distance to the car in front of me, as well as what I set my car to cruise at. It has nothing to do with highway signs. This is why I mention going to the other car section with that question, as the feature may be different in other models, as well as newer models.

Adding to what TMD said - it is a fancy cruise control. Not a self-drive!

Oh, crap! You mean I can't nap while driving long distances? I thought between Distronic and Lane Assist, I could just snooze a bit.

Internet lore has it years ago a man was driving a Winnebago when he put the cruise control on and went back to get a drink. After the inevitable accident he sued W and won which led to them putting a warning in the owners manual that you can't do that lol.

Why does stupidity get rewarded?

Oh, never mind! We just need to look at Washington.

Sorry, but I'm not being political. Every citizen should be critical of their elected officials, regardless of party. I just spent the last 37 years of my life working with and for the government. Guess what? There are a lot of either stupid or maligned people in government.

My 2018 SL is supposed to have this feature as well. My Distronic package does have the auto brake ,auto start function, lane assist function as well the distance control. I have used it on the freeway and its a bit scary going from 80 to stop and then back to 80 again. I use the automatic spacing on cruises and find it very useful but not the full stop function. I have tested this for 5 miles driving in the right lane (testing mode). Its pretty autonomous with the exception on points A to point B function.

I have not been able to see the speed sign function work yet, but you are not dreaming.
Here is the line item from my option sheet.
