Any idea why, or how to correct this?

Hello all,

I rarely go into my glove box and it is kept locked normally. Last week I unlocked it to grab something from inside and when I closed the box and locked it with the key the lever fell forward loosely. If I push the lever back up where it should be it simply drops back down as soon as I take my hand off it. Stranger thing is if I keep the glovebox unlocked the lever stays up in the correct position. This issue does not affect going in and out of the box, it just looks dumb hanging forward.

Heard of or dealt with this happening before? Any way to correct it without installing a new lock?

Thanks in advance...

Locked position of glovebox lever. If I unlock it, it stays up in the flush/normal position.

My first thought is, do you need to lock the glove box? If leaving it unlocked doesn't cause the problem, then leave it unlocked?

I prefer to have things working as they should but yes, it needs to be locked. I will replace the lock if needed, but will wait for others to chime in with ideas, before I order a new lock.

Thanks.

Mines exactly the same, although I very rarely lock it. If it is broken I wouldn't mind betting you have to buy the complete door.

I don't see a separate part number for that lock assembly, so yes probably part of the glovebox
There is typically a spring that holds that type of lever lock in the closed position. Kind of like an interior door handle on a door panel. You'll have to take it apart and assess.....

Yeah, I was hoping someone on the site would chime in with "all you gotta do is x y and z and that should do it" lol. I am gonna check with MB now for that part, but will check the junk yards for totaled SLs if I have to swap out the entire door.

Appreciate it.
