SL/R231: May I join a ride with someone?
I am Jan, I live in the east part of Belgium (Hasselt) and brand new on this forum.
for 15 years I own a Delorean, yes, the car known from the “Back to the future movie”.
But it feels it is time to,change something modern.
I also owned a Marcedes SLK from 2012 which was a nice car, but a bit too small for me.
I am seriously looking for an SL 231. The 350 model no need for the AMG model. I am looking for a comfortable cruise car, not a mussle car
But I keep having the fear to regret changing cars. Affraid for high maintenance or repairs bills, and affraid that it will be not that exiding compared to my BMW 5 series I drive daily.
I keep reading so many positive things, is that true?
I am trying to experience a ride in this R231 model. (No need to drive it myself, just getting a ride)
so…. Is there someone in Belgium, hopefully not too far from Hasselt that would grant me a short drive along so I can feel the experience?
I would really appreciate that and hope someone will react.
regards,
Jan
IMO the R231 facelift (>2016) is a better car than the pre-facelift (< 2016).

The first car was a used car dealership, I somehow did not like what was going on there (counting lots of cash in plain view only foreign languages heavy smoking, so I walked away
the one I wanted to buy the car from was in a used Mercedes dealership. Looked all good, price was good, but the car is on the second floor cleaned like new. So they basically told me testdriving the car means buying it, unless a serious mechanical issue would come forward.
So I will not do that.
I am sure the car will run fine but I want to buy it as a fun cruiser for weekends. I drive a 4yo BMW 5 series and I am worried there is no much difference between my daily driver like where the SLK was a sporty little car that was fun to drive.
So I would like to experience what is is like.

What model SLK did you have?
I had a R172 350 (with everything) which was pretty nippy. My facelift SL400 is better than the SLK in every aspect that I can think of.

just a 4 cylinder 2L version but it was fun to drive.
but I had an SL drive this afternoon. It was a 2014 model 350.
Very nice guy that took me for a 20 min drive over small bumpy roads and showing off acceleration. Even a 2 min highway he floored it.
the car ran great sound was … ok… most certainly a very solid car, I like the look from the inside but the testrun was a bit too vivid for what I want I think.
So I will have to do with this, but I did get that if the Delorean will be sold the choice is no longer SLK of SL but it is certainly an SL.
boy I’m difficult.
