I just realized that all this time I have never used, or known what this button is for. It is on the driver door by the set men buttons.
So I pulled up the electronic manual in the car to look for an explanation and they literally didn't mention this specific button. So I decided to crack open the paper manual that came with the car and I couldn't find anything. Now I could have been just tired, or frustrated from not finding anything via the electronic version first, but I could have sworn the paper manual keep saying reference the electronic manual??
Anyway, I can't imagine what this button is for. Maybe R could be right side? but why would we need to do anything on the passenger side from the drivers seat? Reset? Maybe, but I don't think so. The red light comes on when I push the button, but I always turn it back off, because I worry that it could be some sort of self destruct button that you push if you are car jacked and getting out of the car, so the jacker would either blow up, or get ejected via the convertible top sorta like a jet planes eject button lol.

Any ideas?
If it was indeed a passenger ejector seat, it would be labeled "MIL" for "Mother In Law". Some think "Mercedes Interior Launcher".
You're welcome!
Hmmmmm, not sure why we would need to adjust the front passenger seat from our side? Little kid in the front seat, or something? Oh, maybe someone sitting in the front with some kinda physical condition, etc. that prevents them from adjusting?
I looked for 30 minutes and didn’t see a single thing in the book. Maybe I should have had my glasses on lol. Good find.
Say, you and your wife are on a long distance trip and after driving for hours, you notice your wife dozing off in the passenger seat. So, maybe, you want to recline her seat just a little bit back to make her more comfortable?
Hmmmmmm? I can’t imagine MB was that considerate to put such a thing in our cars. They have to have had a different reason for doing it. But then again maybe you are correct!

When my wife takes her 98 year old aunt 4'2" for an appointment who knows nothing about adjusting seats wife uses it so aunt can see out . Would be nice if our E450 had it.
Yeah, thats what I meant when I said maybe a person with some sort of physical disability sitting in the front seat.
Good call.

So what are you, a newlywed? Oh, I get it. She's rich and you just want to keep her happy and convinced it's really true love.😉
All of my Mercedes have had it. It's a great feature- you can turn on the passenger heated/vented seats when picking someone up. Or after a car wash when they move the passenger seat out of spec it is easy to fix.
I never thought about the car wash thing, but since there is no backseat I always tell the car wash peeps not to do the back seat area. Carpet, etc. still looks like new since nobody goes back there.
Good point if someone changes the seat settings over on that side.

I have also had people in my car that change the seat settings- height/backrest angle etc. I like having both my seats in the exact same position so it looks symmetrical from the outside, I hate looking at the car with the top down and one seat is 4" higher than the other. Hitting the memory button for the passenger seat when someone leaves is easy...
This feature is more useful in a sedan.
The chauffeur can use this feature to move the front passenger seat forward to make max leg room when his boss enters the car.
Additionally, in an S-Class, the rear seat (behind the front passenger seat) has a button on the door to move the front passenger seat forward.

Kind of off topic but: Unfortunately, MB removed it on facelifted W213 for example and I am afraid they are unlikely to bring it back for the next generation E-Class if it isn't because of chip shortage, the lowest model you get this would probably be an S-Class. It is a luxury thing and being in an E-Class (executive class?), reaching over from the driver side to adjust the passenger seat after the passenger left or before picking them up is "not ideal".

I use it frequently. As mentioned above, for someone unfamiliar with tech (in my case MiL): it makes life SO much easier for both of us. Weekly trips for her are a must (87 and bored) so I simply raise the seat to the max and bring it forward when she gets in the car. Son or wife hit M1 or M2 to return it to (their) spec when they get in.
I could of course use the Toyota (which she'd prefer) but I'd miss out on tooling around in the car I love to bits. And it's Florida: 'year round summer' as the plate says.
So what are you guys doing? You push the button which turns on the red light and then you hit a save position (mem 1 etc. to save the seat settings?

From a bachelor’s perspective—I have 3 programs for the passenger seat that I can activate from my side and enjoy doing so prior to driving with a companion. #1 fits my sister, 5’4 and about 120#. #2 fits a friend who is 6’2 and about 300#. #3 is for my little English Bulldog and gets maximum height with the seat sloped back a bit so she can have some room and see out the front windshield while sitting down (she loves watching the world go by). Being able to adjust those settings from my side gives everyone a great starting place and they can then fiddle all they want. In reality, my pup gets most ride time. :-)

And in all probably, gives you the least grief of the three.😉❤️👍
