ABC Strut Boots

Has anyone had to have their strut boots replaced on their ABC equiped R231? Both my fronts have split, only visible with the strut fully extended.

I can see you can by the boot on its own A2313270092, this was a problem for the R230 where you had to buy a whole new strut!

Thanks,
Sam

Luckily, no longer the case....
Curious how many miles are on your car? And region it is located?
That's a pretty good amount of corrosion on metal surfaces. Doubtful it's an issue, but you may also want to do a visual check of rear subframe.

Good Luck.

I am trying to work out if to replace the boot myself or to have my MB specialist do it. From what I can see it is just a case of removing the lower strut bolt and potentialy loosening the top 3 strut mounts to give access to slide the old boot off.

The car has 37k miles. I am based in the UK so lots of cold wet and salty roads. It is in for a service next week so will have them take a look at the rear subframe.

Thanks,
Sam

Ahh, that explains it.

I believe you'll have to open the system (ABC) to get those installed properly.
But you may be able to "sneak them in".

Good Luck!

The boot/ dust shield is available separately with the OPs part number. I think you should be able to squeeze it in from the bottom wiithout taking out the strut. It’s going to depend on how far you can move the strut/lower control arm. If you can’t get it in from the bottom and have to take out the strut, you’ll have to open the ABC system.

Good Luck
