center console drink holder. Too stoopid but true.
Layed a ballpoint pen on center console….opened drink holder flip up door and pen fell into the space the lid occupies when open EXCEPT it will not open to vertical because the pen is laying at bottom. How does one access this mysterious void?

That sux. But maybe if you look at some YouTube videos about installing the Road Top CarPlay unit, they may show how to remove enough of the console to get the pen out. In the videos, you need to remove the facia around the radio to install the CarPlay unit.
Great vids. However I don’t feel up to this level of qualification to dissect my dashboard. I think I’ll keep fishing with a long Allen wrench with bubble gum. This hasn’t worked yet but “sometimes blind squirrels find nuts”

This is really far out, but I did something similar once. Depending on what the pen is made out of, hopefully plastic, Is there enough room to insert something like a small screwdriver or chisel into the available gap which could then be used to break the pen into pieces. Then use a powerful vacuum such as the ones at a car wash to suck the broken pieces out. Sounds crazy, but as I said, I’ve done it in a similar situation. Good luck.
Nope it can’t be reached with anything but a thin piece of wire bent in a “C” shape. The flip up door on opening transitions from horizontal to vertical and the arc of forward edge hides the space until it’s nearly vertical at which point the pen is behind the door. This is my reward for picking up a free pen that I have no use for. Again
I am not mechanically inclined at all but was able to install Carplay in my SL. The easiest part was removing the center console panels. If this is bothering you that much I think it'd be worth looking at the step by step instructions. I think you could do it!
That’s the knowledge, but beyond my pay grade. For me it might be easier to turn the car upside down and shake it out. This will remain a lesson in restraint and peace in how it is. Unless the ballpoint fairy appears.
