Polishing sill plates

Am considering to polish the sill plates on my 2019 SL400, very light scuffing. I was thinking to buy the plastic clips first since they may break during removal and bring the sills to a local polishing place that shined up my C2 Corvette chrome and stainless steel parts. My son says I should mask well and polish directly on the car. Opinions?

I had good success with light polishing compound applied with an orbital polisher. By hand works pretty good as well, but the orbital did a slightly better job. Once polished, I laid down a strip of 3M PPF.

You've got nothing to loose buy trying yourself first.
Good luck!

I did mine on the car last fall. They were in bad shape but came out really well with light compound and a wool polishing wheel. If necessary they do come off very cleanly and have good clips to resist breaking.
