interior door handle no longer working

Hey everyone, I picked up my granddaughter from school today and she could not let herself out of the car. The door handle appears to have become disconnected and I had to come around and let her out. Anyone else have this issue? Are there schematics that show the mechanism that may direct me to a broken part?

Have you had the door panel removed at any time previously? These are cable type mechanism which release the door latch.
There is a cable that is attached to the interior door handle from behind the door panel.
You’ll need to remove door panel to access it.
The cable end is attached (pushed in) to the interior handle with plastic clip from behind the door panel..
What typically happens is if the cable wasn’t properly attached from a previous repair, the cable end can work its way loose.
Sometimes though, the clip (or cable) can break which will disconnect the cable that connects the door latch. You should feel the disconnected interior handle will have less resistance and feel looser than the side that is properly attached/working.

(see circled areas in attached pictures below)

The door handle is definitely feeling very loose or disconnected. I have not had the panel removed, unless it was done by the body shop. I will ask next time I go in to see them. If not, possibly the plastic clip may have broken.

Was the body shop working on the door? If not why would they have removed it, or the panels? If they were working on it then that is why there is a issue now. These type of issues don't usually randomly pop up on our cars that have low miles, unless people are slamming your doors shut regularly. Likely the wire has just been dislodged.

There was no damage to my door, so I would not have expected they would have messed with it. Also, we are not door slammers so I doubt that would have caused the issue. I am going to go back to them soon, though, because of a broken sensor wire to my trunk partition. Hopefully, they will be willing to look at the door handle issue for me. I figure a body shop will have the skill set to best deal with this.

The problem is probably caused by a disconnected or broken linkage. If you take off the door panel and check the mechanism, you should be able to find out what's wrong and fix it. If you need to replace any parts, I'd look at the manufacturer's parts catalog to find the exact ones.

Good news, the body shop I took my car to repaired problem for free. I am not sure what was wrong, but Dan said something slipped out of place, or something to that effect and they just had to put it back, and it is working fine now.
