SL/R231: CarPlay > Favorites button not functioning as before

CarPlay > Favorites button not functioning as before
Hi,
Purchased a 2019 SL450 which has wired CarPlay. I then purchased the Ottocast U2Air Pro to convert to wireless. Connects quickly, no obvious loss of sound quality and overall works really well, however one issue I've noticed with CarPlay is I can't get to my * Favorites any longer. Pressing on favorites takes me back to CarPlay. Clicking Media takes me back to CarPlay (which won't allow me to go to the CD player. Trying to use Mercedes voice with a short press to see if I could call up options eg "play CD" but it only accepts a long press to take me to Siri.
It appears that CarPlay takes over most of the commands that were independent of the device before (maps, phone, etc.)
Just wondering if anyone has found a workaround for that especially for the Favorites other than unplugging or turning off CarPlay.
