I just got a new SL550 and am looking to tint the windows. I'm going with ceramic and deciding between 20% or 35% tint. Anyone tint their SL? If so, what percentage did you go with?
Unfortunately, the darkest you can go in California is 70% on the sides to be legal. That's hardly noticeable. Most folks go <35% and just roll the dice on getting a ticket. Head if you stay in the 20% - 35% range most cops won't give you a ticket. Trying to keep the SL looking classy but am thinking 35% is too light. I'm leaning towards 20%
I had mine done about 6 months ago and used the LLumar IRX series at 30% here in Florida, which is their “medium”. I didn’t want to go total dark out, but instead add a little mystery plus the infrared block. Also, they talked me out of going with SunTek Evolve as they had tons of after-service complaints of folks getting lousy reception on their phones. Did all the side and rear windows. Photos below with a before and afters to help; the tinted photos were taken literally in the parking lot when I picked her up.
@HighPercentile Looks good! The 30% keeps it looking classy. I went with the 20% Geoshield APEX full ceramic. Will have to take some pics and post them. Two of the windows have some bubbles in them, so taking it back to the installer. Other than that, I'm liking it so far.
