SL/R231: Air pump in trunk cycles every few seconds, normal or not?

Air pump in trunk cycles every few seconds, normal or not?
I have an SL63 and noticed that the air pump in the trunk is cycling and venting every few seconds with the key on. I am not sure if this is normal or not.
If I put my finger over the exhaust line of the pump, it stops. When I remove my finger, it starts after a couple of min.
I have no errors or malfunctions that I am aware of.

Not normal. You have a leak sowhere so disconnect the pump until you get the leak fixed to avoid a burned out pump. Faults are not i ndictated anywhere even with a good scanner. You may be able to track the leak with a smoke test.

Definitely a leak. Probably not the seat bladders since they would be shut off normally.
On my 2014 the hose fittings at the pump were leaking. Another possibility is the reservoir next to the pump.
