This was many years ago of course but at that time also had extensive seat time in SL's in Germany; it was great to compare the effectiveness. Driving in the city at 40mph has less effect on airflow and turbulence in the cabin than high speed of course. What was surprising is that the Aircap was surprisingly consistent when driving at different speeds but always too much (after being spoiled in the SL).
Did Mercedes ever improved/revised the material/the size/the shape of the aircap to make it more effective than before or it was the same thing since it was invented?

I see no technical or design improvements on the Aircap since 2016. It was in the C, E, S Class cab before and now only in the CLE which fits more in the C-Class material-wise. The S-Class looked identical on the A-Pillar and the wind screen behind the rear seats was an elegant metal design similar to the SL with the top covers folding to the side (just taller). The CLE has this cheap looking plastic bracket coming out.

The S-Class Airscarf was also nicer but given the price difference understandably so.

The functionality appears identical. Button activation but then automatic raise based on speed.

Since the CLE was brought into the conversation, I agree with the sentiment. Other than the seats being unique to the CLE it really feels like a W206 C-Class in and out, hopefully the facelift CLE will have more E aspects but as it stands it is too C-Class and the price is too close to the E-Class (at least here in Canada). My friend was shopping for a C238 E coupe replacement but this ain't it.
