Saw this. You have said this car will be more expensive than the current SL. The first two levels are 4 cylinders. I could see it being a desirable car with the inline 6. But who would buy it with a four at SL+ prices?

Having owned an SLK55 AMG, an SL500 and my current SL550, to me this vehicle with it's rag top and rear seats is not an "SL". No doubt this vehicle will be impressive and expensive, but Mercedes should have dropped the "SL" name and called this car something else. It seems it will not be "Super Light." There are a lot of other letters in the alphabet.

I am glad they retained the V8 for the 63 & up. 4 cylinder with ePerformance is the new V8... The SL53 will be identical to the new C63s, just not pushing the 650hp.
As to the SL43 coming to the US; we'll still have to see...

To be fair, the SL hasn't been "Super Light" in many decades so I can't really see the point. I am very disappointed by the rear seats, resulting manually attached windscreen or increased wind buffeting as well but the name plate SL has neither been associated with 2 seats or hard tops for the history of the car. Folding hard tops are great but liking them does not make them synonymous with being an SL. They were introduced for the SLK and now they are gone...

Yep. Too bad, particularly for those of us living in colder climes with snow in the winter and warm open-top high-altitude summers. Guess we need to move to soCal, AZ or FL. Oh, wait, probably not.

Agreed. We loved the hard tops on our SL’s.

The glass roof provided lots of light throughout the year (we had Magic Sky) and with dedicated snows it made for a decent 4 season car even here in Minnesota.
Our GTC sits in the garage 5 months a year…

So it sounds like there will be different MB 63's?

C63 will have a four and SL (and high lines) will have an eight?

All MB 53's will be six?

Correct.
AMG SL, AMG S & AMG GT will retain the V8 for the 63. The C-Class will get the 4 banger. The 53e will also be a 4 cylinder but with ePerformance in the SL. Not sure about the remaining 53 models in other lines.
The big question is what will happen to the E63s. For right now, the E63s sedan/wagon for MY 2022 has been cancelled until further notice...My assumption is V8 until the next model (W214) which will also sport a 4 banger...

Thinking of buying this vehicle. Any thoughts either good or bad about this model?

I have had 10 Mercedes and dozens of BMWs. My '19 SL550 is the favorite of them all -- retractable hardtop, comfortable ride, great sound, adequate storage, classic dash layout, great looking lines.
Get a V8 while you can and plan to keep it.

You’re posting in the wrong group and thread - suggest you repost as a new thread in the R231 forum.

That said, the short answer is that I have a 2013 SL63 (same generation) and I love it so far (2.5 months).
