Relatively short review, with an overall positive take on the new SL

Something I find interesting here is the 0-60 at 3.0 which is in line with Motor Trend's 3.1. Same with the ¼ mile numbers of 11.2 @ 125mph. And Motor Trend had 1.03 on the skidpad vs. 1.04 here. It wasn't a fluke when it is repeatable at other publications. It is a fact that people don't usually buy a car based on numbers but this should put to rest the idea of the SL63 being a big overweight barge with no real chops. You do not get those straight line speeds as a porker nor do you get the tail and nose to stay in line at over 1g unless it is balanced and designed correctly. Indeed the car may not at all be what one is looking for - it might have a face only a mother could love in some people's eyes - but at least we can lay to rest the fears that those who hadn't driven one had about speed and handling.

Exactly, where's that guy who non-stop argued the R231 was more of a sports car and the R232 would not be able to provide superior numbers and handling. As expected, looks like he's wrong.

What's up with ECO and Moderate conversation on consumption in the CAR and Driver article - is there a magic button I have not found???

I would describe it between awful and terrible and that is without actual trying very hard.

In town I get about 9 mpg and about 17 mpg on the highway and that is being very judicious.

The only time I get better in town consumption when I engage the " slippery" mode then I get about 12.
