Maybe dumb question - what is this for?
This is probably a dumb question, but can anyone tell me the purpose of the "thing" in the bottom right-hand corner of this image? Is it a handrest, or does it have some mysterious other purpose? Is it something for a terrified passenger to grasp as their life passes before their eyes?

Thanks!
Yes, in the SL it is not more than a rather uninspiring arm/hand rest. However, I could imagine that in the upcoming GT this is the place where once again will be the transmission selector, like where it was on the AMG GTC.
I can't imagine that a selector on the steering wheel column is the right place for a proper, hardcore sports car - however, I could very well be wrong and it will continue to be an uninspiring armrest that looks like someone forgot what to do with it.
