Collision Detected on SL - Fake News

I was sitting in a meeting last week when my Mercedes Me app alerted me to a "collision detected" on mySL. It also told me my trunk was open. I darted downstairs to the parking lot, but my trunk wasn't open and there was no damage to my vehicle. It was a false alarm, thankfully. The collision detected alert happened again a few minutes later, also fake news. Interestingly, the car takes pictures of vehicles around it if it detects a collision. You can scan a QR code on the SL's screen, and download the photos. I did, and it showed pictures of vehicles around the SL. This could be a great feature, if it doesn't give you false alarms. I spoke with my service advisor and we believe that the vibrations on the garage floor deck, along with the wind, created the alarm. It hasn't happened again.

I once had my S-Class triggered by an aftermarket exhaust in a very tight and echoed garage. Definitely a useful feature in case anything bad does happen though.

My 2022 S580 detected a collision from noise at an air show. If loud noise can trigger it, the system is near worthless, IMO.

Well the system, like airbags, is designed for situations that hopefully won't happen. A member on the EQS board had their car hit without them in it, and the collision detection services took pictures of the car in the accident. Its a nice feature, just hopefully one that you'll never need.

My SL63 triggered the collision warning when I had it on my 4-post lift to detail the undercarriage and lowered it to the ground. The thump as the lift bottomed out onto the garage floor was about the same as what you feel on some parking garage decks. It's a vertical shock versus what would happen if a car hit you, but that could happen with a parked car that someone drops something onto.
