SL/R232: Open hood from trunk?

Open hood from trunk?
I was loading groceries into the trunk and used the manual button at the rear. It seemed to snag a bit so I pressed it twice. Loaded the groceries and while taking the cart back into the store I noticed the hood was ajar. I triggered the release latch and closed the hood. Is there some secret handshake between the trunk release and the hood? I haven't opened the hood twice in 6 months so not sure what happened.

Agree, it doesn't make sense but I would like to know how it happened. Seems irrelevant, but the day before I had gotten the car back from the dealer after the windshield replacement and 10K service. There is no way they or I would not have noticed the hood ajar.
Also, if I hadn't gone back to the store to return the cart and not noticed the hood ajar, would the car have started in that condition; or at least had significant visual warnings pop up? I am not aware of a software way to open the hood; I think it's just the below dash switch. The key fob was in my pocket, the handles popped out, and I triggered the below trunk switch: then hood ajar. Just curious, may see what happens if I try to start the car with the hood ajar but not fully released.

Just to close this issue out: the top of my size 14 shoe caught the hood release yesterday getting out from behind the wheel and popping the hood. Mystery solved with a boring analog explanation.
