^ Not to derail this into a ceramic brake discussion, but they do not provide any braking benefit during normal street driving; the limiting factor there is tires. The braking benefit of ceramics are realized in high heat situations, such as repeated braking at Autobahn speeds, on a mountain road, or on a racetrack, where fade is significantly reduced or eliminated.

There is a supply chain shortage of ceramic brakes across manufacturers, which could be why they were not included on the previous poster's order.

The main benefit is no brake dust for street driving. To me a no brainer given the low subsidized cost.

That said, it is true that the brake distance when fully braking is very similar to steels and brake fade is a non issue on the streets
but the brake behavior is quite different.

They are much more grippy with lower brake force which allows you to modulate braking different than with steels. Not every time one brakes has to make an emergency stop.

I like how they stop better than steels. This is a personal preference though.

One last benefit depending how long one owns their cars is that CCB’s will be cheaper in the long run, given the high costs of multi-piece steel rotors and the low lifespan compared to CCB’s.

Durability and brake dust is worth the initial cost. Wish I didn’t go cheap and not opted it. Brake dust on the SL63 is horrible. Wheels look like trash after a 15 minute drive. I am still under 500 miles, I hope it gets better or I may have to change the brake pads.

Before I took the plunge and went for the CCB’s, I switched out my OEM brake pads for ceramic pads produced by Porterfield Racing Brakes in Costa Mesa, CA. Dust was reduced by at least half. Feel, modulation were excellent without any squeaking. Cost was around $300.00 as I recall.

Yes, I’ve done the same on past vehicles and the ceramic pads significantly reduced the dust. Thanks for for the validation!

Although the minority (not me) but some might not like the look of the CCB for some reason, I know a couple of friends that don't. There is also the chipping issue with CCB although that was probably a defect and honestly not a deal breaker.

They told me there wasn't any special offer for the 2023s and high 6s for banks in my area too, so I got a 60 month at 4.74% from my bank.

Nevermind, answering my own question, just looked at the ordering guide https://mbworld.org/forums/sl-class-...der-guide.html in the what's new section and the summary by forum member Eaton.

What a gorgeous color combo. Light color combos have always suited SLs the best imo. Hyper blue is the way to go for the R232. Please post picks when it arrives!
