It would had been better if this was a V12, oh well. 680 used to mean it was a V12 after all.

In the old days, German cars lived by form follows function. This is a fluff piece. I wonder if there's a spinner wheel option?? The white interior needs a fun fur dash. I previously mentioned this was the "Pimp" edition. I apologize to pimps, they have better taste.

I've complained before about the MB decisions..........fire the entire senior management and BOD! I will give them credit for consistency........consistent bad decisions.

You are absolutely correct. This is a tarted up R232, nothing more. I’m sure it will be a moneymaker for MB, but honestly, the car is an embarrassment. What’s next? A Bill Blass Edition?

Naturally, they would do the same on the Maybach but instead of stars, Maybach logos instead and I guess on steroids as well.
I call it the Maybach Tannenbaum Star

I'm not the target market for this, so my opinion doesn't really matter.

But here it is anyway!

This is a very confusing car. I thought Maybachs were supposed to be the utmost luxurious vehicles. Normally that means large, lofty vehicles. S-class? I get it. GLS-class? Yes, I get it. S-class cabriolet? I get. SL-class sports car? I definitely don't see it. This car appears to be a "cool" concept car I'd expect to see making the auto show circuit rounds, as it does look very pretty and has some cool features aka concept car / autoshow features.. But as a car for the road, and a car representing the Maybach brand, I just don't see how it fits.

Then again, MB has made some questionable calls in the past decade, with the release of the 35, 43, and 53 level AMG's, so this dilution of the sub-brands doesn't surprise me.

But I'm not the one buying this vehicle, so I'm just part of the peanut gallery.

Yep, I'm not the target market either . . . Glad to see they brought back the AMG Hammers! Probably HORRIBLE unsprung weight, but brings me back to the 90s . . . Would never buy them and the same can be said about this car; would love to have the disposable income to BE in the target market

For those fellow forum members that lament not being in the target market----------become a part time pimp. If any car could qualify for an IRS write off as a pimp's car, this is it!!!

The more I look at this thing, the more it depresses me. There are so many quality & reliability issues MB currently has on their plate, that they have NOT been successfully dealing with in a timely manner. Yet, they have the time, money and lack of good taste to do idiotic things like this. This car is what I might expect to see as an offering from an upstart Chinese company, not from the hallowed ground in Stuttgart. Are there ANY serious minded, old school, “engineering first” types left in management or have they all retired and left things to the “everyone is a winner—trophies for last place” generation?

I’m sure many here will think that I am making too big of a deal about this car, but I can never recall seeing such idiocy from this storied company in the past and it gives me pause as to where they may be headed.

They didn’t need much time and resources to build something like this! This car will suffice to a handful of people (Dubai, Monaco) where showing off is more important then quality or power or drivability..
Doing a few colors and some maybach signatures on it it’s nothing for Mercedes…
On the other side, if some will be happy to buy it, why not offer it? Minimum effort to get some more cash in the bank!

With all due respect to Raul, fix the myriad problems BEFORE offering "enhanced" versions. I'm not a marketing guy but take care of the existing clients before attempt to broaden the base. Taste is very individual but ignoring buyers with issues should take precedence.

I think Streamliner and I should order matching SL69 Pimp Limited Editions!!!!!!

I think we need to place SL69 orders ASAP. I can imagine the first year demand for the Pimp Limited Edition and the regular Maybachs to be in the tens if not a whole 100!! I can smell the success.

I think my keen insight could finally land an offer to be chief marketing officer at MB................actually my dog could do better.

2020 SL550
At least the Maybach version is a proper roadster without the annoying back seat that is in the current SL offerings. Still, I think I’ll keep my 2020 SL550 for now. That hood is atrocious. Seats do look comfortable, though.

Once again, the decision makers at MB are obtuse. If one wanted to make the Maybach SL special.........maybe concentrate on upgraded mechanicals and lose the pimp look. MB still supplies V12 engines.........a V12 with real power might attract buyers. The Maybach will be a VERY rare car.........because it will be a sales disaster.

Who runs this company???? They are as astute as the Porsche clan that thought EV Caymans/Boxsters will be a great idea.

Well, as someone who now drives a big BMW I7, which is an all electric drive, I think the idea of EV Cayman & Boxter sports cars is a fabulous one. I was one of those “NEVER AN EV” guys, until I drove the I7. The smoothness, quietness and absolutely instant power delivery are intoxicating. I have become so addicted to electric propulsion, that I find myself irritated when I hear all the noise so many exotics & near exotics make—not to mention the Mustangs!

They should focus on fixing the issues (mostly software), with the software issue, that is not a very "Maybach" experience...
