Before I drove an SL43, I ordered a well optioned one with a blue top, code 744. Well, since I drove the 43 and found it to be lacking I have tried to use the same specs to order an SL 55. Sales tells me there is no blue top now. How is it that previously there was one(code 744 blue top) and poof, now there's not? Any thoughts or ideas?

My guess is that there were very few takers of the blue top and they just decided to can it. It’s not shown for any SL model on the MBUSA “Build” site.
I was under the impression the blue top is a MANUFAKTUR option which will be coming soon, as announced with the Big Sur special edition. The only available “standard” tops are Black, Red, and Gray.
Code 744 translates to "let's charge the client more because we feel like it" . I'm not sure about the "few takers" explanation............kind of hard to have takers if the color option isn't on the build sites or at the dealer.
The entire roll out of the R232 should be a case study in what not to do........and the saga continues with mechanical issues/impending recalls and lack of color selections.

Anyone who has followed my posts knows that I am absolutely unapologetic for the missteps that MB has made in the last 2 to 3 years. That said, I am believing more and more that most—if not all—of the current MB issues are due to the insane, overreaction to the CCP Virus fiasco. Most of the world fell apart during this time and things that should have been done were not. Things that were done, were not done correctly. I believe vehicles that were engineered and brought to market during that time are flawed. Add to this, the unbelievable war in Ukraine, where numerous materials and products were previously sourced, and it’s amazing that any vehicles have been delivered, many flawed as they may be. I also believe-and sincerely hope—that MB is currently scrambling to correct these issues and to right their unsteady ship. Let us all hope.
