When I approach my SL with my key in my pocket, the doors automatically unlock and the handle is presented to me.

But, when I walk away the door do not automatically lock. Is there a way to make this happen?

I don't think so, but maybe I have to wait longer?

Great point, they really don’t unlike for example my BMW ALPINA. I am going to call the “ genius” at my dealership.

The doors don't actually unlock when you approach the car. While the handles do present themselves, they don't unlock until you touch the back of them.

They do auto lock butt the key must be some distance away.

Mine does not. Maybe there is a hidden setting to make this happen? I do get alerts on my phone from the mercedes app reminding me to lock my car from the app.

I thought it auto re-lock only if you unlock but never opened a door?

The SmartKey locks and unlocks the following

components:

• Doors
• Fuelfillerflap
• Trunk lid

If the vehicle is not opened within approximately 40 seconds after unlocking, it will lock again. Anti- theft protection will be armed again.

Do not keep the SmartKey together with electronic devices or metallic objects. This can affect the SmartKey's functionality.

Thanks for posting what is written in the manual, that was what I thought. It only locks if the vehicle doors were not opened, the reason why it relocks because there might be accidental key presses to unlock the vehicle so it relocks as a result. To OP though, no, MB never had the walk away auto lock features found on BMWs which is a shame but I don't think that would be a deal breaker. I hope there are many more things in MB that you enjoy superior to a BMW though.

Ok I see that people keep missing the point, He asking for the doors to automatically or auto LOCK, NOT Unlock people.. and yes it does happen with mine too I have to either hit the bottom on the door handle or pressed the key to lock it which is annoying coming from a BMW M8 which had this feature.. also why the SL dont have soft closing/or suction doors another annoying thing about the SL..
