Double press is BS - true solution here

I always used double press to deactivate keyless go and tried to keep key away from my car. Noticed more than once that the handles still „opened“ when I got close. I found that double click DOES NOT disable keyless go. Simple test: keep key in pocket and strike the handle or get close and the handle will open.

BUT if you close the door by press and hold MB key AND quickly press open button twice… NOW its disabled.
Same simple test, keep key in your pocket and try to open door by touch/glide on handle. Now with true disablement this does not work
Try until this works. The only way now to open/deactive is to press the open button.

hence double press is BS

Will use this now at night and when I dont use the car for longer period….

Double lock press might not truly deactivate proximity but whatever it does, it allows me to leave the car for two weeks instead of two days. Thanks for providing this trick though, I'll give it a try!

Yes, it was changed for the latest key fobs. The new design apparently made it more prone to accidently disable it in your pocket. The new sequence is explained in the owner's manual. BTW, there's also a motion sensor in the fob now, which disables it automatically after being motionless for 2 minutes.

#1 It seems to me that the standard key double click helps to put the car itself in to a deeper sleep.

#2 It seems to me that the process described above puts the key to sleep and thereby deactivates keyless go even if the key is nearby.

Procedure #1 works well for my 2023 SL55 but apparently not other SL's?

Working fine for many an S class owner and you can possibly save yourself some hassle: Lock the car when you get out and then use a Faraday bag for the fob. Place it somewhere on your route in and out of the house and it's easy peasy; no futzing about with the enabling and disabling and no more dead batteries. At least if it also works for you...
