Seat back strap

A search of this forum showed no previous posts on this subject. Has anybody had a problem with the seat back release strap? The drivers side seat back cannot be released because the strap is stuck and cannot be forced. The passenger seat release works, albeit grudgingly. It seems this is not a common problem because neither Toronto head office nor Germany is very forthcoming to my dealership in how to fix it.

I can say that I had the same problem with my 911 and the dealership, while saying with a straight face, that they had never seen that problem before managed to repair it the next day. They even had a strap in the same colour leather in their warehouse.

Are you storing anything beside or under the seats that could be jamming into the seat rails?

No, nothing like that. The strap was reluctant on the day I picked up the car but we thought it would loosen up. No such luck though, it just got worse. It seems to me it should be a relatively simple thing to fix, much like a gate latch but perhaps not.

It turns out that the mechanism is a framework that goes down both sides of the seat with a latch at the bottom of each side. One latch seems to work well but the other doesn’t. The fix is to replace the whole frame, which has to be ordered from Germany and of course, takes two weeks to come.
Fortunately the foreman and senior technician is a friend and I know that the job will be done correctly. Perhaps this mechanism is an example of AMG over engineering what should be a simple process?
