Being There

Anyone see the movie? Peter Sellers played the part of Chauncey Gardiner, who was the mild mannered White House Gardener. Chauncey became the President of the United States.
Sometimes being there(right place at the right time) is everything.
Today, when I was hovering around the area of my trunk, with my key in my pocket, I heard the trunk latch mechanism release, and up popped the trunk.
Is this a feature? Because if it is a feature, I never knew about it.

Perhaps the trunk release button on the keyfob was somehow pressed? I know I've had the occasional car alarm that was set off by the fob in my pocket when I sat down.

It’s a possibility, but I am thinking scant one. At the exact instant the latch released, there was no pressure on the keys in my pocket.
I was as Chauncey Gardiner embodied, just “being there” just hovering around like a housefly or a gnat.
Anyway, thanks for coming to the rescue. At least this thread can die a dignified death now.

What is more likely. The key fob was inadvertently pressed to open the trunk or the trunk just decided to open on its own just because the key fob was near by.

Since you seem to be assuming something, I will also assume something, that you haven’t read the thread.
I assume that for good reason. There could be another alternative besides the two you have seemingly limited yourself to.
I asked, in the original post, if it was a feature, somewhat like the foot wave under the back bumper in some wagon models, to open the hatchback.
Now, of the 3, if you gave me those options, I might select the most likely alternative to be the option of the feature.
But I don’t know if it is a feature, so I am asking, because like I said in the original post, I haven’t seen where it is a feature, in the R232.
It could very well be.
But at this rate, I may never know, and then just assume I am left to the other remaining 2 explanations you so kindly outlined.

Yes. $100 option per below.

HANDS-FREE ACCESS lets you power-open or close the trunk with a gentle "kick" of your foot under the rear bumper. It's a convenience you'll really appreciate when you've got an armful of packages.

My only assumption was that if you thought you may have the hands free option to open the trunk. You would have tried and eliminated that as a possibility before coming here to ask. Hence the reason to come here and ask for advice. I have the hands free option and have never accidentally opened the trunk by standing near the car. I've cleaned and detailed the car with key fob in my pocket and never inadvertently opened the trunk. Nevertheless, if you think you may have that feature, just kick your food under the trunk around the license plate or center to see if it opens. It's a slow kick motion one time and it can take a second for the trunk to open. If it doesn't work try a few more times in slightly different spots in the center area. Failing that, my guess is you hit the button in your pocket.
