SL63 x 63 E Perf x AMG GT E Perf driven back to back - thoughts

Recently I had a chance to drive all the range topping cars during an official AMG Drivers Lounge event in Affalterbach.

I am sharing this so we all can discuss my observations and I will be glad if owners could comment too.

I highly recommend this driving event, it is well worth the money.

The driving itself was done on public roads behind an instructor. Needles to say, the instructor isnt exactly hanging around.

The cars very very nice specs with Manufactur paints and leathers.

Overall, I must confess I am in love with the SL and the AMG GT coupe. Its funny how I seem to like what nobody likes (SL63) and I dont like what everybody is raving about (GT3 RS or GTS).

SL63
To me, this is the perfect combo. The burbly sound is such an event. I find this model to be the most balanced with perfect traction. You can pretty much boot it from any corner and the 4 matic takes it all. In that sense, it is so much fun.
I had lots of trust in this car.

SL63 E Performance
Curiously, I found this the most difficult to drive. Due to the torque figure, it is all over the place. It tends to fishtail even in straight line during full throttle and in corners it gets sideways quite often. These are little skids that stability control catches immediately, but you can feel it. They are always there and I found it difficult to drive it fast, find my rhytm with tje car because you are always watching out for the next slide instead of enjoying the drive.
When pulling out of a T junction with lots of traffic, the rear would always step out a bit and tires squeek. I think it has to do with the throttle calibration which isnt the greatest (its too sensitive, gives you too much too early).

AMG GT 63 E Performance Coupe
Very lovely experience, with the glass roof the interior feels elevated even further.
As an observation, I think I noticed a bit more stability that the SL so subjectively its a bit easier to drive fast that the SL; maybe because its stiffer overall?
What I found quite distubing in this model was the electric motor whine (very high pitched sound) in the interior. Anyone else has also experienced this? Maybe it was just this particular car.

AMG GT 63 Pro
This was also very lovely, I noticed a sharper steering but overall not so much of difference compared to the regular 63. To me, not worth the premium over the regular 63.

Great write up and sounds like a helluva an experience driving those cars back to back. Obviously the audience here will be biased to the SL vs GT3. I’ve been super happy with my SL63. I put winter tires on it and it handles as well as my old E63 and GLE63s did in snow and slush. The ride is on the stiffer side and I do find myself wishing comfort mode was a bit more comfortable. As it stands I never use comfort unless I’m driving highway at speed on cruise control as I find it lethargic.

Your observation about the S E performance is interesting. It echos another I’d read about the corvette E-ray (small block Chevrolet V8 coupled with an electric motor and all wheel drive) vs something like the Z06 or ZR1, true ICE cars with rear wheel drive.
