performance line

hi all, i'm looking at a 2022 SL 55, but it doesn't have the "performance line" option i was hoping it would. How important is that option? i'll only put 3000 miles on it per year around town and a couple of shorter trips.
Thanks for your input in advance, john

I think it’s one of those things that are gonna be subjective on if it’s “worth it”. Performance line brings the 55 closer to the 63 in terms of handling characteristics. You get active hydraulic dampers (McLaren -esque), electronic limited slip diff, Race mode and I believe dynamic engine mounts. I imagine unless you’re driving two cars back to back you may not realize the difference for your use. I can see if someone owned one with those options or an SL63 for sometime and put a few thousand miles, then went and got into a non performance line SL55 they’ll probably feel quite different. For a new customer, I’d say if the non performance line car has the right color combo and drives nice go for it. Just make sure the battery thing is sorted.

It also includes a front axle lift system which helps prevent scraping when entering steep driveways or speed bumps. These can be memorized by the system so that when you get to the same spot again it can raise the front end again - if you wish. Total raise is 1.2 inches. I use it all the time.

I have it, but having not driven an SL without it I can't compare. I don't notice any of the fancy things which were accurately described by others on this thread but I can say it handles like it's on rails. I'm confident going into all turns at high speeds. If just feels rock solid with no body roll.

I also do like the front lift where it can memorize a location to lift the front for say, a steep driveway or speed bump.
