I'm trading in my 2017 AMG GT for a 2022 amg SL55. I had an extended warranty on the GT. Do you think that I should have one for the SL? THANKS IN ADVANCE, John

Yes on the extended warranty coverage, plenty of manufacture buy-back cars out there would suggest so as well.

Congratulations on the new purchase!
And yes I agree you should definitely have a warranty on the car.
Depending on the mileage you should still have some manufacturer warranty left on it. If it is a certified pre-owned you can purchase an extended Mercedes warranty, if it’s not a CPO then you would have to go third party warranty. The nice thing about the CPO warranty is I believe it’s prorated so if you trade the car in before it expires I believe some of that is refunded to you, you should ask your dealer about that.
Good luck with your new car !

Does anyone have a warranty company that they think is really good and reputable?

Some things to consider when purchasing one of these or other high end cars. The maintenance costs can add up very quickly. With a CPO you automatically get an extra year of maintenance plus whatever is left on the original warranty so the CPO’s are typically priced about 15k higher than a non CPO. Mercedes will point you towards a third party but I have no idea how reputable that is. If the car is a buyback you’ll have to go third party warranty and a lot of finance companies won’t finance a buyback because it is a branded title.
this will also affect the trade in value and limit prospective buyers from purchasing it if you sell it directly.
if you plan on keeping the car it’s not a concern except for ongoing maintenance. I would want to know why it was a buyback and you can get the answers to that, It could be that a part was unavailable and was at the dealer longer than the acceptable time and the original owner invoked the lemon law buyback which makes it a branded title.
My advice is if it’s a buyback find out why, see if all the maintenance is up to date, check the cost of the 3rd party warranty, and who will finance the car and what is the rate. After checking all these you may find out that it’s actually a better deal and more peace of mind to find a CPO car. You want to enjoy this experience not worry about repair costs.

Reputable coverage providers will not cover branded title vehicles like a buyback, same with the OEM extended warranty coverage, ineligible. Originally Posted by SL 63
