SL/R107: Unable to remove steel top.

Unable to remove steel top.
I followed the directions in the driver's manual but the rear roof pin will not release on my 1989 SL. What is the way to solve this problem so I can remove the steel top and store it for the Summer? Any help would be appreciated thank you.

This morning I connected the roof to the manual hoist again. I raised the roof up as far as the catch would permit without harming anything. I thought I could use a small screwdriver to push the latch away from the pin but my hands are to large for the space.
I went back to jiggling the release handle in the car and alternately pushing down on the safety lever. After awhile the pin was released and I was able to remove the roof.
One thing I noted that I caution you about. If you have a hoist with plastic buckles beware. One of them on the straps was broken. It had no effect on the lift but it is not a good idea to be operating the hoist with broken buckles.
