Sloshing gas sound - 85 380sl

I just bought my 85 380 last spring. It's in great shape and I love it. I've been reading a lot of the forums and useful links but I haven't seen anyone else complaining of the loud sound of gas sloshing around in the gas tank. Does anyone else hear it and do you find it as irritating as I do?

I can't believe that such a quality car didn't have some kind of soundproofing. If this is not supposed to be a problem, has anyone installed any type of soundproofing to deaden the noise?

I have an 85 380Sl and don;t hear the gas sloshing. Is this the original tank? I would imagine that gas tanks have baffles not only to prvent the noise, but to steady the gas gauge.

Sloshing gas sound - 85 380sl

Thanks for the reply. It got me thinking some more.

It is the original gas tank and I'm suspect you're right about baffles in the tank. The sloshing sound (I love technical talk) is not constant and as I think about it more I think it may be happening only immediately after a fill up. I have a bad habit of trying to in get every last drop that I can. I wonder if it might just be due to overfilling and having gas up almost to the filler cap. I think I'll try being more sensible at the gas pump and see if that gets rid of it.
