SL/R107: 560sl keeps cutting off

1989 560sl
560sl keeps cutting off
Can someone please tell why my 89-560sl keeps cuting off? If I am driving the car or if it is at an idle the check engine light comes on than I hear a clacking sound coming from the bottom of the glove box then the car cut off.
