Unhappy Dead 83 380SL

I have just purchased a sad but hopeful 1983 380SL that has been sitting for 10 years. The previous owner tried to get her running and has replaced the fuel pump, filter, battery, spark plugs & drained the fuel tank. His results were 2 min. of black smoke & then she died & would not restart for 20 min. with the same result, then he gave up. I figured the next step would be the injectors, but have learned of a unknown part to me called the fuel distributor. I have experience working with American & 70's BMW autos but this is my first Mercedes. I would appreciate some guidance in my quest to bring her back to life for my wife. Any ideas out there on how to test the F.D. or do I go ahead & change the injectors?

Thanks Nugget83
