450 sl
![Question](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/icons/icon5.gif)
i've been rebuilding a 79 450 sl with 86k. i get the car home from the body shop after fixing a very minor front right corner hit. any how i take it to my mechanic after the body work is done, for a general looking over. on the way to the mechanic ,and the first time i have driven the car since i bought it wrecked, the trans is having a real hard time shifting. not quite a slip, but at the same time a slip. does anyone out there know if this could be related to a electrical problem, ie soleniod or a vacuum problem? i don't know much about the history of this car. according to my mechanic the car has had a small engine compartment fire at some time. the fire and the small tap to the front are all the history i have of this car. any help or direction would be greatly appreciated. i've been told these transmissions are bullit proof. thanks in advance louis

300CE/90 and 500SL/86
I bought my 500SL last month and first thing I have made to fix something which at the begining looked like some leaks at the gearbox, but after they removed it from car, it showed much more leaks, so they adviced for complete overhaul of the transmission...
I will describe my SL in a separate thread, but just wanted to share this with you - these transmission are not that bullet-proof - or - as usually - it depends very much on who and how is driving it.
