1973 450sl
73 450sl no reverse automatic
just bought a 73 450sl automatic with 78k miles, needs some work. but overall good car. the transmission has no reverse it goes forward however. does anyone know how to check the valve, looked in trans pan, oil is clean. I am assuming clutches are good

I'm just grasping here as I know less than nothing about the SL transmission, but...

Seems like I've read of worn shifter bushings making it difficult to get in gears. If there's any indication of wear in other sectors of the shifter, you might check that first.
