Quieting Exhaust, 450 sl, 1978
I would like to eliminate the exhaust-resonator unit from the center of my car completely. It's about to fall off. It has a newer rear muffler. I prefer "quiet" exhaust. Has anyone had any experience quieting this system without creating alot of back pressure. I'm willing to change or replace the muffler or add a resonator. The existing muffler has a throaty sound. I have the ability to bend pipe and weld.

I'm about to do the same thing, I'll be using an X shaped crossover where the front pipes come together at the center silencer, then install either Magnaflo or Thrush glasspack type silencers behind that, in the center, then pipes back to the mufflers. I'll be installing 2 mufflers, 1 on each side, in the rear (I've made space by removing the spare tire bay, and using 1" square tubes instead of the stock framing members), using Thrush welded mufflers, and making exhaust pipes from the center silencers. Should work, with an aggressive, but not too loud exhaust note.
